The Labor and Employment Law Division administers and enforces the laws of the Commonwealth that govern employee pay, the employment of children, the right to work, and certain other statutes that relate to the workplace.

Payment of Wage Unit

The Divisionโ€™s Payment of Wage Unit investigates complaints concerning unpaid wages, certain anti-retaliation statutes, and various other labor laws in the Commonwealth.

Youth Employment Law

The Divisionโ€™s Child Labor Unit administers and enforces the Commonwealthโ€™s laws and regulations related to the employment of youth, including the issuance of Employment Certificates

  • Report a suspected violation of child labor laws

Prevailing Wage Unit

The Divisionโ€™s Prevailing Wage Unit administers and enforces the Commonwealthโ€™s laws and regulations concerning the rates of pay of employees working under certain contracts and subcontracts for public works in Virginia.

Virginia Labor Laws

The Division enforces and provides general information about various laws and regulations concerning employment in the Commonwealth.

Human Trafficking

The Division enforces the posting of notice of a human trafficking hotline by truck stops and adult entertainment businesses.

You may pay for your inspection certificate invoice online. Accepted methods of payment include:

  • Check
  • Credit Card
  • Electronic Check (E-Check)
  • Electronic Transfer (EDI)
  • Money Order
  • Cash IS NOT accepted

If you wish to pay by credit card or e-check, you will need certain information from your invoice, including invoice number and the Virginia number (VA number) of one of the objects. The VA number can be found on the table that appears on the invoice. You will only need to provide one VA number, even if your invoice lists several object numbers.

For all other methods of payment, please follow the instructions on the invoice and the remittance form you received.
